how the money works
the 90/10 split
Subscribers pay $40/year ($3.33/month). Of that, artists receive 90% ($36/year, $3/month per supporter) and CMN keeps 10% ($4/year) to run the co-op.
Stripe charges CMN a standard card-processing fee (about 2.9% + 30¢) on every subscriber payment. CMN's 10% share absorbs that fee — it's never subtracted from an artist's 90%. Artists always receive the full $36 per supporter they're credited for.
When a subscriber signs up or renews without selecting an artist, their $36 is split among all artists who are signed up for the platform that month.
Subscribers can choose or change the artist they support at any time. Each payment is credited to whichever artist they've chosen at the end of the month it was paid. After that it's locked in, and a later change applies to their next annual payment.
when you get paid
Payouts are handled manually by CMN staff, and go out in two parts on two different schedules, depending on whether a subscriber is attributed directly to you or pooled with other artists:
- Attributed subscribers: paid monthly. As soon as a subscriber designates you as their supported artist, your full $36/year share for that subscriber is paid out at the end of the month in which they subscribe, and again at the end of the month each year they renew.
- Undesignated (pooled) subscribers: paid annually. Your share of subscribers who haven't designated an artist is calculated every month and tracked throughout the year, but is only paid out once, at the end of the year.
